A DEEP SEA STORY:

FISH & IMAN

Welcome to FISHING FURQAN, where we not only organize unforgettable fishing expeditions but also foster a strong sense of community and faith. Our story revolves around two brothers, Sayeef and Sabbir, who enjoy some halal fun in the sun with friends and family far out deep into the ocean blue.

Sayeef and Sabbir were born in Fort Lauderdale but have been living in Tampa, FL since 1999. Over the years, they developed a love for fishing alongside their close-knit group of friends. Their passion for fishing went beyond catching fish; it became a spiritual journey that brought them closer to their faith and nature. Each fishing trip was an opportunity to reflect on the bounties bestowed upon them by their Lord, such as their physical abilities and the chance to enjoy the abundant sustenance from the sea.

In 2016, they decided to share their love for the sport and their faith with others. They established an annual Muslim community deep sea fishing initiative based out of Clearwater Marina, where they invited fellow Muslims and neighbors to join them on their fishing expeditions. These trips were not just about catching fish, but also about forging lifelong connections and strengthening the bonds of brotherhood.

On board the deep sea charter, large enough to host close to 100 people, the atmosphere is always filled with warmth and camaraderie. As the engine roars to life, everyone is filled with excitement to embark on the journey. We take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the vast ocean, the gentle breeze, and the opportunity to be fully present in the moment. We also have the pleasure of enjoying khatira, nasheed, and athan over the speaker system throughout the day as we navigate the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Prayers and adhkar are a perfect way to express our gratitude for the chance to relax and experience the wonders of creation.

At our first fishing spot, we will cast our lines and wait in anticipation. Conversations will flow freely, filled with laughter and shared stories. It is during these moments that bonds are formed, friendships are deepened, and the spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood will thrive. However, this is not a walk in the park; be prepared to pull 10-20 pounds of pressure as big fish will fight until the very end. As the catch becomes more plentiful, the boat comes alive with excitement. We always emphasize the importance of respecting nature and practicing sustainable fishing by adhering to limits and seasonal criteria. We learn how to handle the fish with care and release any unwanted catches back into the water when they are not large enough to harvest. The joy of the catch is not solely about the act itself but also about our gratitude for the abundant resources and the responsibility to preserve them.

As the day draws to a close, the boat returns to the marina, laden with the day's bounty. We leave with not only a cooler full of fresh fish, which can be filleted or enjoyed whole, but also a sense of fulfillment from sharing a meaningful experience with friends and family. However, our fishing experience extends beyond the boat, as we share the fruits of our labor with family, friends, and those in need. We eagerly look forward to gathering our families around the table, sharing stories of the day, and savoring the delicious meal prepared from our catch. This faith-based fishing adventure enriches our lives and has become a cherished tradition we eagerly anticipate each year, ready to pass on to the next generation.

Come fishing with us and embark on a journey that goes beyond the thrill of the catch. Join us in celebrating the blessings of community, faith, and the bounties of the sea. Together, we will create unforgettable memories and foster connections that will last a lifetime.
